Your therapist will tailor a treatment plan to your needs. In general, therapy sessions include time to understand what you’re dealing with, build coping skills, and talk through the stressors or symptoms affecting you.
Therapy should feel like a real conversation with someone who is engaged, supportive, and confidential. Many clients find it is a place to be completely honest, where they can work through the issues keeping them from the life they want.
Therapy length depends on your goals. Some clients meet short-term to work through a specific challenge, while others benefit from ongoing support. Your therapist will build a plan with you.
We're honored that you chose to work with one of our licensed mental health professionals. We understand this may be an emotional and stressful time. Here's how to prepare for your first appointment:
1. Call our office staff to check whether the therapist you want to work with is accepting new clients.
2. Our staff will e-mail you paperwork to complete before your first session. This will include a copy of your driver's license or ID, insurance card, and medication list.
3. Once your paperwork has been received (and your insurance has been verified, if applicable), our office staff will contact you to schedule your first appointment and send you instructions for using our telehealth platform.
4. You'll receive a link to your initial appointment by e-mail about 5 to 10 minutes before the session.
5. Log on and meet with your therapist. Initial assessments typically last about 45 minutes and include only the new client and therapist for adults 18 and older. A parent or guardian is required for the initial assessment of a minor.
6. Our goal during this first session is to understand your therapy goals and create an individualized plan to help you meet them.
7. Please let us know if you're feeling anxious or worried during this first appointment, and bring any questions you have for your therapist.
No, we do not prescribe medication. We don't have a medical doctor or psychiatrist on our team. Our licensed professional counselors provide talk therapy using behavioral, cognitive, and experiential approaches. If needed, we can help you find a psychiatrist for medication management.
